| Overview: The question that every
company has to face at some time is if they are hiring the right
person. Bradford Smart’s Topgrading discusses the importance
of this decision and introduces his methodology of “topgrading”.
Smart believes that the success or failure of a company is dependent
on that decision; on hiring the right person for the right job.
His topgrading system is designed to help you recognize the outstand
employees (the A players) from the mediocre ones (the C players).
Topgrading also discusses how to keep those A players and how to
transform the in-between employees (B players) into outstanding
ones. Topgrading is a resource that every manager interested in
results should read. |

| Key Points |
| Topgrading is about finding and keeping the right person
for any given job. Smart maintains that using the resources to find
and pay for the best (an A player) is worth the cost. He notes that
half of all employment situations result in mis-hires, with the average
cost of a mis-hire being twenty-four times the average salary cost.
However, Smart’s Topgrading system results in a 90% employment
success rate. Topgrading can also work for current employees and should
be used to determine which employees should be promoted or fired,
as well as which employees need coaching to reach their potential
as A players. The following is the table of contents from Topgrading: |
